End of the road – Davinci Resolve on Intel Macs

DaVinci Resolve Drops OpenCL, Leaving Intel Macs Behind

If you’re one of the many creatives who relies on DaVinci Resolve for your top-tier video editing, effects, and color grading on a Mac, we’ve got some potentially bad news.

Blackmagic Design, the folks behind Resolve, have made a major change in the newest version (including the Studio edition): They’ve completely removed all OpenCL support.

What does this technical tweak mean for you?

Simply put, if you own an Intel-based Mac, you will NOT be able to launch or run the latest version of DaVinci Resolve. It’s a hard stop.

Your Options Right Now:

  • Stay Put: Continue using DaVinci Resolve 20.2.3 and forfeit access to new features.

  • The Big Leap: Make the inevitable switch to an Apple Silicon Mac (M1, M2, M3 chips, etc.).

It looks like the future of professional video editing on Resolve is firmly rooted in Apple’s custom silicon! Don’t get caught out by the update!
