Samsung Galaxy Watch 4/W4C, One UI6 and the weather settings

Samsung recently pushed OneUI 6 to the Galaxy Watch 4 series. While the update is generally stable, the native Weather integration is currently broken—specifically for those using the watch with non-Samsung hardware.

The Problem

When attempting to use the Samsung Weather app or tile, you are repeatedly prompted to “Enable Location” on your phone. However, regardless of the permissions granted or settings toggled on the handheld side, the watch app fails to acknowledge the change. It appears to be a breakdown in the proprietary Samsung sync layer.

The Solution: Pivot to Google Weather

Since we cannot easily patch Samsung’s closed-source sync service, the most efficient workaround is to bypass it entirely in favor of the native Google Weather implementation.

Execution Steps:

  1. Install Google Weather: Open the Play Store directly on your watch. Search for Google Weather, install it, and launch it to grant all necessary location permissions.

  2. Replace Tiles (Widgets): Remove the unresponsive Samsung Weather tile from your carousel. Add the Google Weather tile in its place.

  3. Reconfigure Watch Face Complications: If your current watch face displays weather data:

    • Long-press the watch face and enter the Customize menu.

    • Navigate to the weather complication.

    • Select the new source. Note: Both Samsung and Google label their category as “Weather.” You will need to select the one associated with the Google icon/app to ensure data population.

  4. Save and Sync: Exit the customization menu.

The weather data should now populate instantaneously without any “Location” prompts.
